FAQ
What is the cost of becoming a sponsor?
A sponsor is asked to make a $300 per year contribution to support each child’s education, housing, medical needs, and any emergencies should they arise. This amount can be broken up into monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annual payments.
Does the sponsored child or his/her family receive the money directly?
We allocate the donations to Project San Pedro, which is under the discretion of The Sisters of Bethany. They ensure that each sponsored child continues in school and receives whatever supportive services may be required to live a dignified life worthy of a child of God.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Yes. You will make your check or credit card payment to the Diocese of Charleston which is a 501 (c)(3) organization. We place the money in a restricted account and regularly sent it to the Sisters of Bethany account in Guatemala.
How often will I need to pay?
You may pay monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or annually.
Can I communicate with my sponsored child?
Yes! You may send letters to Project San Pedro, Diocese of Charleston, 901 Orange Grove Road- Charleston, SC 29407.
May I visit my sponsored child?
We request you do not visit on your own, as the visit needs to be arranged by the coordinator of Project San Pedro. However, if you would like to travel to Guatemala as a participant in one of our missions, please give us a call. Or you may request for a mission participant to meet with your child, deliver notes or small gifts, or take a recent picture of your child for you to have. Please check the website for trip dates. www.missions-doc.org.
Can I send a package/gift/present to my child? Since the post office in Guatemala will fluctuate between open and closed, we ask that you forward any small packages to our main office in Charleston. We will then transport them during our bi-annual medical missions.
